This is a replica of a Swept Hilt Rapier designed and created by John Barnett to museum quality. It is a wonderfully designed sword that represents historical accuracy and authenticity. This model comes with a leather covered scabbard perfect for holding and protecting the sword. During the English Civil war period both mortuary swords and a variety of rapier styles were standard swords to be encountered on the battlefield. Many rapiers were to be found with heavier blades so that the sword was better suited to withstand warefare. The word "rapier" generally refers to a relatively long-bladed sword characterized by a complex hilt which is constructed to provide protection for the hand wielding it. The blade of the actual swords might be broad enough to cut to some degree but the long thin blade was made more for thrusting.
