This is a replica of a Victorian Military Sgian Dubh formal style, it is of a typical military pattern. The wooden hilt is carved in a basket weave pattern with metal nails for added decoration. This is a typical Victorian military style and was easier to carve than the celtic knotwork designs that decorated the earlier 18th century dirks and daggers. The pommel cap and ferule reinforce the wooden hilt and protect against damage. The weapon would have been carried in a metal mounted sheath.
