This is a replica of a late 17th-century hunting Sgian Dubh with sheath and natural wooden handle. This is a small, single-edged knife worn as part of traditional Scottish Highland dress along with the kilt. Originally used for eating, hunting, preparing fruit, meat and cutting bread and cheese as well as serving for other day to day general uses too. It is now often worn as part of a traditional Scottish dress tucked into the top of the kilt hose with only the upper portion of the hilt visible. It is usually worn on the dominant hand side.
